Hi Stampers, welcome back. My week is all messed up thanks to classes and appointments so we will catch up on some shares today.
First, Late Night Stampers Design Team Challenge this week is "BLING" I'm kind of not much for bling, so this was a little outside my comfort zone. I was having a "Blank Brain" day too, so I decided to combine it with the Mojo Monday Sketch, #129
I love these sketches, they give you a starting point and I really liked the layout of this one
so here is what I did.
I heat embossed the flowers from the FLOWER FANCY STAMP SET with Black Embossing powder onto Whisper White Card stock
This piece is 2-1/2 square,
matted to 2-5/8 square of Basic Black
I decided to color them with my Stamp-n-write markers.
I colored the whole flower with real red, then I went back and colored each petal again with the red, and while still damp, I added a line of Chocolate Chip down the side I wanted to shadow, then,
I went back and blended it in with my red marker.
This is a great way to add depth and shadows to your work and the brown blends nicely with darker colors
Next, I took a piece of the Bride Specialty paper (page 158)
and I inked it using my Real Red reinker and a sponge.
See how the embossed design shows through.
I wiped it with a damp baby wipe after I finished.
I got this idea from Miss Carole'Anne, and I used it in December too on my Vintage Vogue card CLICK HERE. It is another form of "Resist"(meaning the embossed image resists absorbing the ink or paint).
this piece is 3-3/4 wide by 3-1/2 long
matted in Basic Black, 3-5/8 wide and 3-3/8 long.
Next I used my Big Shot and my two tags die (page 198)
and cut out tags in basic black.
and created faux stitching around the edge with my White Gel Pen
(page 190)
Here are my pieces all ready to go.
The card is Basic Black, 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, score and fold at 4-1/4
Whisper White Mat – 4 x 5-1/4, this has been embossed on the Big shot, but you can't see it in this picture.
The Black Tag, I wrapped a piece of the Black and White Stripped ribbon around it, then did another ribbon application on the top with the new Real Red Satin Ribbon,
Holding all that down is the base for a BUILD A BRAD,
oh, and I added some round clear Rhinestone brads to the center of the flowers.
I used a scrap of the bride paper I inked to punch the image for the brad I'm building,
then covered it with the sticky dome from the Build a Brad Kit
(page 179 – these are very cool).
There you go
AND
I used my new watercolor technique
(makes the prettiest paper towel (bottom left)).
and turned them all into cards. Swap cards are usually only the face of the card, so those are laying down, the rest are all thank you cards.
This technique is "resist" as well and that was our other challenge for the swap this month.
Ok, I'm off to finish even mor
e projects, I might even be caught up by the end of this week…..but don't bet on it, haha…

Hey Lady!
Love the button!! Isn’t it funny how one little treatment moves the piece from great to fab!?!
Sharon
Hey Sandi!
I really like this week’s sketch too. You used some of my favourite colour combos too. Thanks for sharing the steps with us! It’s a very pretty card!
Wonderful card, love the colours together. Love it.
Cynthia
LOVE your color combo! Stunning together!
Thanks for the tips on blending colors as you did on your red flowers. The brown really does give it depth. I love that card as well as your swap. The resist technique is a good one! Beautiful work, as always.
Oh Sandy! What a gorgeous card!! Love the green and blue cards too…so pretty! I was at the Calgary Regionals and didn’t know that Carole’Ann was there! Darn! I would have loved to have hooked up with her! Next time! I must go to her blog and leave her a comment. What a small world!
Hugs,
Lesley
Gorgeous card! I love the way you did the ribbon especially. It’s so rich and elegant looking:-)
Thanks for sharing!
Inky hugs,
Janet
Goodness – for not being into “bling”, I’d say you blinged this up VERY nicely!! Your ribbon treatment is fantastic, too. Not to mention those swap/thank you cards – beautiful!!
Great card, Sandi. I love the Build-a-Brad, and the red, white and black are stunning.
Hi Sandi,
Another great card, made exceptional with your photography so we can really see the closeups of your detail work.
I gotta say my favorite idea is the blending
of the brown into the red on your flowers for shading. Beautiful!
Gina
Oh Sandi–you always “floor” me with your fantastic creations! I love how you used the “two tags” die for the slanted element on the sketch! And I have always had a soft spot for the colour combo of red, white & black (even in my clothing choices), so that really “spoke” to me. You make everything look so easy, and like it was just “meant to be”…I think you have talent that oozes out of you so naturally!
I HAVE to tell you….I’m SO excited!!! I met Miss Carole’Anne on Saturday at the Calgary Regionals!!! Yes! I did! She is just a reall DOLL! Tres petite and delicate in real life, and as pretty as her picture on her blog! I hear you two will be bunk mates at Convention, and I’m just so envious!!! One day I’ll get a chance to meet you, too, Sandi–you are definitely one of my stamping idols! Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent so generously!
Happy Hugs,
Chris in Calgary, AB Canada
Sandi, What a Beautiful Bling card an the colors and shadingare great thanks for sharing the how too But wht is the NEw watercolor technique that you invented?? I guess I missed that post Blessings Mary Ellen Cope
Beautiful card Sandi. Very clever idea to sponge the embosssed designer paper. I will have to try that idea. Thanks for sharing

Wow! That flower card is beautiful! The colors are so rich! Also love the watercolor dragonflies!! tfs
you sure do a super job with watercolor
Reading your blog is a tutorial in itself. I always get ideas. Now I have to try the flowers – embossed and blended! It’s raining here in Florida today – so it must be play day in the stamp room.
Absolutely gorgeous loved both cards & will definitely be casing you! Thanks for the opportunity to win some blog candy, too.
Your card is fantastic! I love how you created the red paper and the shading on the flowers. Marvelous tips.
Oh wow Sandi. I am sorry I forgot to mention the Killer brad. That rules!!
Sandi, another awesome card! You are an inspiration. How did you do the ribbon? It is very stunning! Thank you so much for all you do for me! kt
SOOO glad you decided to “put your face back on” so we could see all your gorgeous creations. I’ve been eyeing this stamp set for a few weeks now and you made me want it even more! The red, black and white are stunning together and I’m going to have to go back and reread your watercoloring posts so I can learn how to do that as beautiful as do! Any plans to move to Texas in the near future?? We would love to have your talent down here!
Wow, both cards are so beautiful! Sponging the Bride specialty paper is a lovely effect. And your watercoloring, gorgeous colors!
Love the cards made with the watercolor technique! So pretty! I haven’t tried that technique but it would make wonderful swap cards that I need too!
