Brayered mountains

Howdy, and happy Monday to you.  Play day today and I wanted to try my version of the brayered technique.  Mine is mountains, with a lake.  Where we come from in the British Columbia Okanagan Valley, there is a lake just outside of Vernon called Kalamalka Lake (in native tongue, this means Lake of Many Colors), and boy is it.  There are also beautiful mountains and some evenings, you can almost drive off the road looking at the view.  I think it is one of God's finest pieces of work!

I made a heck of a mess creating this, but it is so much fun, you will want to do it too.

Brayer first layer

Cut your Whisper White card stock and lay it down on top of a bunch of scrap.  Make sure there is nothing bumpy under there as the brayer will make it show in your ink.  Tear a strip off the bottom of another piece of scrap(I used photo copy paper), this will be your mountain outline. Lay this down about 1-1/2 inches above the bottom of your W.W. card Stock.  Ink 1/2 of your brayer (the right side)(Melon Mambo).  Run your inked brayer back and forth a couple of times, starting and stopping off the paper, leaving 1/2 inch of white space at the bottom.  You want your torn bottom edge scrap paper to protect the rest of your W.W. card stock, keeping it clean.

Move template

Move your torn edge paper up a little, and move it to one side at least an inch.  This will help the mountains look natural DO NOT INK YOUR BRAYER AGAIN.  Run your brayer over this a few times, the color is lighter and makes the mountains appear farther away.

Dark bottom

Now, move your torn edge back down to the very bottom, ink the right 1/2 of your brayer with a darker color (Elegant Eggplant), and run it back and forth a few times.  This will become your foreground.

Moon

Next I used cut up Stampin Up Sponges, and added Bermuda Bay and Brilliant Blue to the water.  I took a round sponge and cut it into 6 pie shaped pieces, that way I have a flat edge and a round part to work with.

Add leaves

Add some leaves.  I used the Pocket Silhouette Stamp set, stamped some in Old Olive, the rest in Black.

Pink mountains

then add some foreground stamping.  I did these all in black, but then I went back and did an overlay of versa mark stamping, and embossed in gold.

Now, here is the Boo, boo, that created some really awesome mountains.

Pull purple into mountains

I started the next card with Bermuda Bay but I used the same piece of torn paper for my template.  By the time I got to my 3rd set of mountains, I guess the ink was wet enough to start moving the previous color around a bit (which was the Elegant Eggplant from the above card).  It created this great shadow at the top of my mountains.  See, now it isn't a Boo Boo anymore, ITS ART.

Mountains As you can see, I used the Lovely as a Tree stamp set for this card, but I also added a little Dazzling diamonds, just to see what it looked like.

The art piece on the tall cards is 3×6, the black mat is 1/4 inch bigger and the card itself is 4 x 9

The Melon Mambo cards is 4-1/4 x 5-1/2, the art piece is 3-3/4 x 5 with the mat 1/4 inch larger as well.

Purple mountains

These mountains were done with Rich Razzleberry.  Oh, and the moon in all of these is made by punching the 1-3/8 circle out of a piece of scrap, then I sponged the whole thing with So Saffron, and outlined it with Pumpkin Pie.

Ok, quit reading your e-mail and go give it a try.  Your customers will absolutely love doing this.  Make sure you cut them lots of extra card stock though.  You usually mess up the first couple getting used to where to put your torn edge template, but then you get it and you can't make just one.  I'm going back to play, see yah later, and thanks for stopping.
